I’m telling you our family could have used this course back in the day. We raised 2 of the most disobedient dogs in town. The fact that we spoiled them by letting them sit at the table with us at breakfast and gave them their own plate of French Toast with boysenberry syrup could have contributed somewhat. Incredible I know.
We never taught them to take us seriously. We did teach them to speak somehow. But they only came when you called them if they felt like it.
I remember one time when one dog dug under the fence and escaped(which happened all the time) and ended up at my elementary school. He helped himself to a couple of the kids lunch bags played around a bit before being sent to the principals office. My mom was so embarrassed and payed for the kids lunches that day.
Another time he ended up at the beach. We got a call from the manager of the snack shop. He told us he was having a great time. He had a couple of hot dogs and was riding some waves. “But could you come get him please”.
It’s been scary too. He was missing for a week one time before we got a call from the humane society. He was ok! Another time he was also gone about a week and it looked like maybe he wasn’t coming home this time. Then one night a scratching of the paw on the front door. He made it back!
Unfortunately it wasn’t all without consequences. He was poisoned by a neighbor one time and was in the vets office for a week. The thought of somebody poisoning our dog because he was in his yard still upsets me. He lived through it because of a great vet who new what was wrong right away.
I think training our dogs when they were puppies might have been a good idea. Yeah, you think.

Dog Obedience Training
Training a dog to obey your commands can be an ongoing and lengthy process. It depends on the dog, the methods used, and the skill and understanding of both the pet and its owner.
It is best to start dog obedience training after you and your dog have had a chance to bond. Obedience training doesn’t solve all behavior problems, but it is the foundation for solving just about any problem.
Communicate With your Dog
Training your dog to obey your commands opens up a line of communication between you and your dog. Consistently communicate with your dog what you want it to do and reward it when he listens to you.
Obedience Training usually refers to the training of a dog and the term is most commonly used in that context. On a basic level, obedience training deals with teaching the dog to reliably respond to basic commands such as ‘SIT’ (don’t jump on people), ‘DOWN’ (put that thing down), ‘COME’ (follow me or come here), and ‘STAY’ (don’t run off like that).
A dog that has received proper obedience training should be able to respond and comply with every command given by his owner. To learn more about Dog Obedience Training, you can Get Access to our Free Online Seminars and Subscribe to The FREE Training Course
Dog Training Schools
Dog Training Schools have trainers, who are professionals. They are experts at handling different dog breeds, irrespective of their age and gender.
Before you actually go ahead and enroll your dog in a training school, make sure that the training school is nationally recognized. Visit the school for a day or two and watch how the trainers train other dogs. Also the trainer should be a certified dog trainer, having at least 5 to 6 years of experience.
Dog Training Schools can cost you good money. A Kindergarten Puppy Training Course can range between $100 to $300 (approx.) for a 4-week session. A Basic Obedience Course can vary from $200 to $500. Some schools even offer special value packages that range from $220 to $650. This includes a mixture of obedience training, kindergarten puppy training, socialization, etc.
They might ask for your dog’s up-to-date vaccination certificates, a leash and collar and any particular treat you give your dog.

A Brief History on Dog Training
With time, dogs have become an important part of human households. They are seldom treated as working mates. Dog owners of today unlike people of the 18th century, consider their pets as one of their family members and go out of their way to provide the best of training, diet, grooming and care.
William Koehler was perhaps the first dog trainer who had encouraged dog owners to have a better bonding with their dogs. In fact, before that, dogs were considered as working animals, and were mostly kept in the backyard. His training methods helped dog owners transform these animals into household pets. It is he who introduced the leashes and collars and explained their importance.
Soon, dog owners started realizing the pleasure of taking a simple walk with their dogs. They enjoyed the companionship and vitality of playing with these animals. And that slowly developed into a beautiful relationship of trust, affection and commitment.
A number of training philosophies have been developed based on the idea of dominance (alpha dog where the human is the leader), and on the very idea that your dog perceives you as another dog.
Training methods today have no place for harsh punishments and losing your temper. Fortunately, for the last few decades, canine psychology and behavior is being given more importance. Based on such aspects, dog training is now about loads of patience and positive reinforcements.
